In the media...well, kind of, but cooler...

So we have lots to update you guys on, but give us a few days to get our facts all in a row and give proper holla's to the cool offers we're getting since our appearance in the Ottawa Citizen! For now, we just wanted to highlight a cool and totally unexpected highlight that happened today.

A special shout-out goes to Audrey, who is in grade 4 at St George elementary school. Audrey is doing an assignment about us and our project this week for class. Good luck, Audrey, and let us know if you need any more help. Audrey, this is really cool and we're very honored to be the topic of your presentation.

This is most definitely one of those warm-hearted community moments that Bri and I hoped might happen. (Well, obviously we never expected to become someone's school assignment, but you know what we mean.)

Audrey, we would LOVE to get a copy of your assignment for our scrapbook!

  1. WoW! Can't believe the negativity of the previous poster....
I think this is great! WHY NOT?????? Wish I had thought of it 15yrs ago. I love the opportunity to be able to help others that live in the same community. This is what builds community. If you have nothing to give or chose not to, then that's fine....maybe some of the rest of us really do like to invest our time and energy and resources in something other than ourselves. I know for a fact that there is reward in serving/helping others....LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea....there should be more of this in the world....let's stop revolving around our own belly buttons. Hope you accept my offer of a wedding cake...No hard feelings if you don't....and for the previous poster, I actually just recently decided that instead of selling my decorated cakes, I would accept donations that I would completely give to Samaritans Purse, and organization that hands out Christmas shoeboxes filled with goodies for kids who have NOTHING around the world. Believe me, giving and loving is the only thing that matters - it WILL come back to you multiplied!!!

  2. Seriously, everyone needs a helping hand. What goes around comes around, and quite honestly, if we really want to get down to the nitty gritty of it, I'm doing this because I love God. He has given me the ability to share my gift with others and has clearly told me to seek out those that I can help with this gift - and He's made it clear to me that I'm to use my talents as a blessing. EVERYONE needs to be loved. Maybe if we all realized that, we could change bitter hearts, tear down walls, soften what selfishness has made hard - that is what changes lives. That is how the love of God is multiplied and quite honestly, that is what moves me. I don't need to decide or judge whether or not they could do this without my assistance or any one elses. That is something that they will answer for themselves before the Lord one day. All I have to worry about is doing what God has told me and that trumps theirs, yours, or anyone elses opinions.

    Blessings!

  3. Whom am I, who are you, to decide whether or not they deserve this? What is the line? The line that makes a person worthy of blessing or not???? My husband and I had many contribute to our nuptuals years ago and now that I am able to bless others, then I will continue to pay it forward. I certainly won't take it as a personal attack if they chose not to have my cake. If I was doing this to get some sort of "recognition" or "validation" then maybe, but what I'm trying to get accross to you is that when God moves your heart to help others, whether it be the homeless orphans in Haiti, or your rich neighbour, it becomes not about the $ but about the act of "loving on someone". I would of course love for them to take me up on my offer, but again, quite honestly, my reward comes from freely offering of myself, my time, my talent. I trust in a God who supplies all my needs in abundance - that frees me up to offer love in a variety of ways - financially or in acts of kindness....
oh, and btw, what the beggar on the street REALLY wants is for someone to sit down beside him and be his friend. not because he DESERVES it, but it goes deeper. It's about feeling worthy. I've sat down with the homeless too. It was incredibly rewarding.

  4. you're just not understanding what I'm trying to say. To me, it's not about them, or their "need" (or lack thereof, you would argue!) I would offer kindness to anyone, whether or not they "deserve" or "need" it. I've given away cakes, or services, or shown kindness to people who have MORE resource and probably BETTER resources than I have. The measure of someone being worthy is not WHAT they have, or even, if the receiver will do with it what you please, or even whether or not they have chosen a life of laziness and therefore CAN'T do it for themselves....my point is a life of selflessness and love.

LISTEN, I'm all too often made aware of the part of me that says, "hey, you need to earn my respect, my love, my energy, my services". And that is something that will always be there. I guess the power of Jesus' grace and mercy in my life - which I'm TOTALLY unworthy of - is the power to love others, whether or not they want it or even appreciate the gesture. It doesn't matter. If I can shine my little light and bring a ray of brightness, then that is my calling. If no one else but my God and Saviour see what I do, it doesn't matter....and that's for real....'cause the eternal rewards are far greater!
That's probably my last comment on this...probably!! haha!
